Your Home is the Best Winter Session Location

People typically think of scheduling family photos in the summer or fall when the weather is warm. But I say don’t write the winter off so quickly because your home is the best winter session location.

Pros

There are several pros for home sessions.

  • Convenience: Its as convenient as it gets. You stay put and I come to you. No loading the kids into the car and no traffic. And no little ones falling asleep on the way to the session and then waking up a little grumpy.
  • Comfort: When you are in your own space , everyone can relax. When you are relaxed, it comes through in the photograph. Additionally, when the kids are in their own space, they have easy access to all the things that make them happy like lovees and snacks. And lastly, when the kids are happy, mom and dad can relax and enjoy the time together.
  • Bathrooms: With young ones this is especially helpful.
  • No Matter the Weather: Rain, snow, or a lot of wind makes no difference to our time together. The weather is always nice at home.
  • Flexible Time: We don’t have to worry about timing for the perfect sunrise or sunset light. And this means we can take into consideration meal time and nap time when scheduling.
  • Your home is the ultimate reflection of you and your style.

CONS

  • There is some pre session prep for the house. You may need to declutter. Take things off of tables and dressers, make sure clothes are put away, put toys in closets, things like that. I often suggest putting a white duvet on the bed to help reflect light too. Here is an article with tips to make this happen.
  • I, an essential stranger, will invade your space, including come into your bedroom. That can feel funny at first.
  • No beach or sunset, but portraits are about you, not the scenery.
If your interest is peeked, take a look at this in home session. It's another great example of how great together time is for making family photos.
