The hardest part of family photos (besides choosing a photographer) is figuring out what everyone will wear. When you book a session with me, I give you a personalized what to wear board that you can use as inspiration or copy down to the very last detail. Either way, I do my best to make the the process simple. I mean who wants more work, am I right?!
The keys for fall photo outfits versus summery beach outfits are: layers and accessories. Cooler weather becomes a great opportunity to enhance an outfit with vests, scarves, sweaters, boots and even hats and gloves. Whereas on the beach you don’t even need shoes, in the fall, shoes are an opportunity to elevate an outfit. You can really play up the fall colors with neutral toned shoes, especially vintage sneakers or pretty ankle boots.
As always, I recommend using neutral tones with a a little pop of color. For fall, that color should be on the darker side like navy blue or an earthy green. The idea is that we want to complement not compete with nature’s spectacular color show. Other great options would be taupe, dark red or burgundy, and a chestnut brown.
So, there you have it folks. A couple of tips and great examples of what to wear in your fall portrait session. I have a couple spots left this fall, so give me a call and I will create a custom what to wear vision board just for you and your family!
