Little boys are so fun! A boy mom once told me that when you add boys to the equation, it’s not addition, it’s exponential. They feed off of each other and rile each other up in the best way. Boys playing is a frenetic experience, with lots of movement.
So what does that mean for a photographer trying to make beautiful portraits that mom will love? It means that I must be on my toes and ready to play and chase and come up with game after game so that the boys are having fun and not feeling like they have to sit still and feel bored. Some of the things we did with the boys to keep them having fun and making great portraits all at the same time are tickles, tossing the kids in the air, climbing and running to and away from mom and dad.
Something I always tell the parents is that the kids run the show. We do what we need to do to keep them happy including taking lots of breaks so that they can run at will. I love these session with little kids because, like I’ve said in the past, kids can’t help but let their personality shine. They are who they are and that’s all there is to it! Plus, you want to capture them as they are!
