Some photographers say that we artists are “at the mercy of the weather”. You just never know when rain will fall, winds will pick up, and sun will move and create sun flares or shadows. It can be a really tricky thing, but I’ve learned that a positive approach and a bit of skill and creativity make quite a difference…it can even make the weather the thing that makes photos purely magical. The weather dictates the light, and light really is what makes a photo. This beach session has a really unique look; it was post rain and the skies were a deep blue, and the family chose jewel tones for their outfits. Overall, it has a very saturated, pretty look, which suited their personalities! They are a vibrant, loving family with lots of charm, and now they have photos to match!
When choosing family photography outfits, I think people tend to be intimidated. They feel overwhelmed by picking things that match, or trying to make every family member happy. Something I really recommend is to choose a color family or pick one item that is consistent throughout. You’ll notice that a few family members in this shoot chose to wear denim (jacket, jeans, etc), and it really tied everything together without matching. Remember that texture is always your friend, and going with solids ensures there will be no clashing prints. I am always happy to answer any questions about wardrobe, if you feel you need more help or guidance!
