Y’all, there is something magical about this session of a family of 5 in Long Beach at sunset. The pink sky, and soft light, the sound of the waves, and the endless horizon create a stunning setting for relaxed, joyful family portraits. With two energetic little boys and a brand new baby girl, this mom and dad had their hands full.

But the combination of playful energy, glowing sunset light, and the beautiful shoreline made gave them the opportunity for some relaxed fun family time. And the photos reflect that feeling beautifully.

The beaches of Long Beach are one of the most beautiful locations for sunset family photography on Long Island. As the sun begins to dip toward the horizon, the sky transforms into soft shades of gold, pink, and orange and it creates natural light that flatters everyone.

For this family of 5 photo session, the timing could not have been better. At the time, there was a hurricane taking place along the Mid-Atlantic coast. The waves were some of the biggest I’ve every seen on Long Island. What you can’t see is that the waves was filled with probably a hundred surfers and the beach was filled with hundreds of spectators. What that meant for us, is that the sky was the pinkest sky I had every seen in person, in my life.

Even when there isn’t a major weather event, sunset sessions in Long Beach are ideal because the light becomes softer and flattering. The breezy atmosphere allows families to relax, play, and simply enjoy time together.

Photographing a family of five always brings a wonderful mix of personalities and interactions. With three kids, there’s always laughter, movement, and my favorite, a little bit of joyful chaos. This of course nmakes the photos feel authentic and alive.

You can see in this session, the boys run along the shore, wrestle with dad, and pause here and there for cuddles with mom and baby.

Instead of stiff posing, the focus is always on capturing connection. We love moments of laughter, hugs between siblings, and those quiet in-between moments that happen naturally.
