I love to experiment and learn new forms or portrait photography. Learning new skills and honing my craft not only keeps my clients receiving the VERY best I have to offer, it also keeps me fresh and inspired. When I try something new, I always use my favorite guinea pigs: my kids. For this session, my lucky offspring was my son, Keaton. I may have had to bribe him with his favorite food from Moe’s but I did in fact get him into what he deems “death traps”, aka blue jeans and a sports coat! Ha! Doesn’t he look handsome, though?

My setup was simple; a good sized window for some gorgeous, filtered light and a very simple black V-flat to put my subject in front of. That’s all! What results is a modern, captivating image that is free from distraction. I love this approach because the simplicity allows the tiny details to be on display and the main focus. You can see his hint of a smile, and the number of freckles dancing across his nose, and that charming sparkle in his eyes. It’s a really pure way to photograph, and I know I’ll be exploring this more in the future, so stay tuned!
